The road drains in a district of Munich have a special format, which is why the road drain filters based on conventional DIN sizes could not be used flush.
However, in order to effectively neutralize bad odors from the sewer, the filter must be used without interruption.
After the problem had been identified, our experts took measurements and developed a basic body, built a tool, recorded measurements in CAD, and developed a suitable product from it.
In order to remove severe odors from the sewer network, the city of Potsdam opted for the COALSI street sewer filter.
However, the odour load of two sewer shafts was so high due to extremely strong H2S formation that even the special mat from COALSI was unable to contain the formation of odors.
Because of the extreme H2S formation in two sewer shafts, a single activated carbon filter mat was unable to neutralize the odors. Our experts therefore recommended using a multi-chamber filter with four to eight mats.
Following an on-site inspection, the existing street sewer filter was modified so that two bodies could be mounted one above the other. This allows four activated carbon filter mats including a syphon ring to be inserted without adjusting the suspension, as the sturdy V2 stainless steel hooks support the additional weight. The solution successfully removed the odour load.
The BBS II pumping station in Emden was a source of considerable odour nuisance for years. Waste water from the urban area and the municipality of Hinte caused unpleasant odors, which particularly bothered students, teachers and the neighboring sports club. Previous measures, such as a high stainless steel chimney to remove the gases, did not provide sufficient improvement.
In search of an efficient solution, the city of Emden came across the COALSI multi-chamber filters. These compact and powerful filters enable effective odour neutralization — even with larger air volumes and high H₂S loads. Two multi-chamber filters with passive ventilation were installed on the fireplace via a custom-made T-piece.
The result:
In the first summer after installation, the odour nuisance was completely eliminated. Thanks to COALSI's expertise, a simple but effective solution was found — without complex modifications.
Bad odors at pumping stations are caused by the decomposition of organic substances in wastewater due to lack of oxygen. Particularly during long transport routes or at high temperatures, hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) and other odor-intensive gases are formed, which cause the typical putrefactive odour nuisance.
The pumping station in the town of Rosbach vor der Höhe removes exhaust air via a louvered grid using forced ventilation. It was not possible to install a multi-chamber filter on the lamellar grilles.
In order to effectively neutralize the bad odors from the pumping station, a plastic frame was made to measure, into which the hybrid activated carbon filler mats could be inserted. The so-called wall cassette was then attached to the vent from the inside to neutralize the odour-intensive gases before they are released into the environment. This solution was later also used in Nuremberg and Kiel, among others.
